Week 9

Only two weeks left of this term I can't believe it. But they will be very busy weeks!

This Tuesday is esp busy, we have Rita Palmer the literacy advisor assisting with our writing program. Also Tuesday night if we hold our mouths right, and the weather stays okay we will have our Mix and Mingle evening from 4.30 - 6.00 ish. We will follow the same format as planned before but without the swim. Feel free to set up a game etc, we will have equipment out.

This is our last week with Zoe Thoresen in our room, she heads back to Palmerston teachers college the week after. It has been lovely to have her in the room.

Last Friday saw us having all together J.E.T again. Everyone enjoyed assisting the younger children while exploring and discovering themselves.

We then followed on our theme of our local community, making fire-engines from egg cartons.

What a treat wacky hair mufti day was - the children raised over $400 for child cancer. well done!

Our word of the week will be " likes"
Our sound of the week is "Ww"
Our maths focus changes to looking at the tens and ones in numbers, (along with hundreds for experts.)

Week 8

Rhys' elmer from last week.

What a great week we have had. It is lovely to have Miss Thoresen in our room for the next couple of weeks. She is from Palmerston North Teachers college and is on a placement in our room.

The weeks are flying past so quickly - this past week our for our focus of 'You, Me, We" we all walked around the school, looking at the teachers and Staff , identifying where they can usually be found. The writing that we produced about this is awesome. The children were each given a different staff member to write about and the information they provided about them is fabulous. These are up on our wall. eg "Steph issues our books in the library" Samuel. "Mr Turfrey is special because he sits on the white seats at lunch time," Danika.

  On Friday we produced some amazing freestyle art using our foot print. The intruction was to make a creature by tracing around your foot first, then use your imagination. The results were so original.

J.E.T had an interesting challenge this week - to create a kite that could fly. Blake discovered a way to control the string. William and I researched the name of this device, a reel containing the flying line.

Next week we have our walk around Taradale. Thank you we have all permission slips returned. If you offered to come with us thank you. We will be leaving school at 9.30, returning by 11.45ish.


Our sound of the week is "Bb" with our word being "with."  The maths focus is still ordering a range of numbers. Some groups will look at numbers to 100, with others looking at numbers to 1000.

Week 7

This week we have a special visitor in our room. Miss Thorensen is visiting us from Palmerston North Teachers College. It will be so great to have another teacher in the classroom.

Thank you to all of you who have returned both your t-ball notice and also your trip notice for our walk around Taradale. T-ball will begin this Wednesday from 3.10 - 3.45. It is a fun relaxed way for the children to take part in an afterschool activity.

Our walk around Taradale, including a visit to the Taradale library will be a great way for us to see first hand some of the services/shops available in Taradale - all part of our  "You, Me, We" topic.

J.E.T. was fun last Friday - along with many other activities, we tasted some fruits and planted the seeds that Olivia's dad kindly gave us along with the seed raising pots. We will watch these seeds grow then transfer them into our junior school garden.

This week our sound of the week is "Tt"
Word of the week is  "then"
Our maths focus will be sequencing a range of numbers that don't follow in order. eg 12, 24, 74, 34, 23.

why the leaver worked.

We have just completed some amazing art ( that we started with Mrs Harris) about being unique. If you get a chance pop in to see it. I'll add some to the blog next week.

Room 4

Week 6

What a great week we have had. On Thursday we had three very special visitors, Nicky Pope, with Harvey ( 2) and Molly (6 weeks.) As many of you are aware Nicky taught many of our class last year in Room 2.

This week was not a week for J.E.T. So instead we worked hard on a new art/ writing project. We decided what it was that made Bledisloe School such a cool place, but the tricky part was we couldn't use anyone elses idea, it had to be our own. Below is an example of what we did. 








Hopefully this week the weather will be kinder to us for our mix and mingle night. This is a casual, relaxed evening, when you can meet your child's teacher, mix with other families from the school, play a game on the field, maybe even go for a swim ( weather permitting.) Could you please let me know if you are still able to come this week for catering numbers.

Room 4 quietly following routines this week. Mr Turfrey came in and gave us a clap, he was so imppressed!

Our word of the week will be "looked"

Our sound of the week will be  Rr"

Our maths learning focus continues to be number - looking now at sequencing a range of numbers from the smallest to the biggest, biggest to the smallest.

The children so enjoy looking at our blog and each week we view the countries people are looking ud from, America, Russia, Germany, to name a few.

Week 5


  



 The term is just flying past - week 5 already. Last week along with our usual learning we completed our "Kadinsky Art Wall," and completed our place mats for our tables. We had all together J.E.T on Friday which is always a huge hit - as the Year 2 children get to help the Year 1 children to explore new activities. Sadly our wheat tray we use for discovery play had become invaded with weevils - but what a great opportunity to explore these bugs.

This week on Thursday night we have our Mix and Mingle night - form 4.30 - 6.30. This is a great opportunity for the children to show you their classroom, meet the teacher, mix with other families. We will have a sausage and then if the weather is kind and you wish to, the pool will be open for a swim. Please return the forms sent home on Thursday asap if you intend to come as we need to know how many sausages to order. Hopefully I will see you then.

Our sound of the week this week is "P", with our word of the week being " Away." For maths we will continue to look at number order, especially at the change in decades, counting both forwards and backwards.

Week Four

Wow, it is so great to see the sun this weekend - let's hope it stays as the weather certainly isn't helping our swimming programme.

Rita Palmer ( literacy expert) came into our room last week, we look forward to her visiting again soon to assist with our writing programmes. Sadly Fiona Hurley ( swim safe NZ) put off her visit due to the weather, hopefully she will be back in soon.

We have all now well and truly settled into Room 4 and the class routines. The children have quickly got used to their maths change-over class, ask them who they are with and in which room. Our maths focus initially is number identification along with number sequence.

Our word of the week this week is "went" ensuring we don't muddle it with "want. Our sound of the week is " N."

Olivia and Emily enjoyed tasting the kumera from our junior school vegie garden along with sprouts, carrot, beans and broccoli. Cody said" I didn't like kumera but I do like it now!"

Jorja and Scarlett were very busy during J.E.T.aking dolls houses out of cardboard boxes. they made candy houses.
